Benet Academy hosts Oswego East in the IHSA Sectional Finals. The Redwings dominated the Wolves early in the season, coming away with a 65 to 36 victory on November 28. Since then Oswego East has played some incredible basketball, losing just one game and entering Benet Academy on a thirteen game win streak. The Redwings have been equally as impressive, only dropping games to Morgan Park, Homewood Flossmoor, and Whitney Young, all of whom are number one seeds in their respective sectionals.
Coming off a win against Neuqua Valley that got a little too close for comfort in the fourth quarter, the Redwings came out strong and never backed off. In that game, senior Kathleen Doyle struggled, starting 0-7 from the field but ultimately finishing with 11 points. Coach Joe Kilbride said Doyle would turn it around and she certainly did. The Nebraska commit dropped a career high 31 points leading Benet Academy to the 68-60 victory.
Also having big games for the Redwings were junior Katy Jaseckas with 19 points, and senior Elise Stout with 11. Next up for Benet is another trip to the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Illinois for Super Sectionals. There, the Redwings will meet the Edwardsville Tigers, who the Redwings defeated in Super Sectionals last season before winning the State Championship.
