The Naperville Invitational in girls soccer has always been a showcase for the most competitive collection of teams and talent in the state. At this year’s tournament, Chicago Red Stars defender, and 2008 Naperville Central graduate, Casey Short returned for a meet and greet. Short, exemplifying the heights that tournament participants can reach.
Despite the fact that Short is a Naperville Central grad, her presence with the Red Stars seres as inspiration for all of the girls in the tournament looking to make it at the next level.
Short now shares a locker room with former rival, Waubonsie Valley’s own Vanessa DiBernardo, a two-time Naperville Invitational champion. Hoisting the coveted trophy doesn’t guarantee that you’ll make it to the pros, but it’s not a bad start.
