A pair of teams unbeaten in DVC play meeting at Naperville Central as the Redhawks host Neuqua Valley.
Starting things off with number two singles, Jared Bennick going for the Wildcats against Naperville Central’s David Wang.
Wang feels his strength is in his backhand and he shows it here, eventually putting a shot down the line out of the reach of Bennick for the point.
Wang now serving in the far court, a solid volley goes back and forth until Bennick picks a ball off the ground and Wang sends it out of play, point goes to Bennick.
Bennick serving in the far court now, Wang puts this match away with another great backhand, taking it by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
Onto number two doubles where Neuqua turns to sophomore Jack Considine and junior Alex Neuman, facing Blake Roegner and Danyaal Saeed.
Neuman serves in the near court and the Wildcats take the game as Considine uses his racquet like a shield for a pair of rapid fire returns beyond the reach of the Redhawks.
Considine serves in the far court, good patience from Blake Roegner who waits back and smashes a powerful forehand down the line. Central takes the first set 6-2.
Near the end of the second set, Considine serving once again, Saeed charges the net and smashes the point home, Redhawks take two doubles 6-2, 6-2.
In number one singles, Naperville Central junior Joseph Li in a great battle with one of the area’s best in Neuqua junior Eddie Neuman.
Li serves on the far court and he will take the opening set by a 6-4 score, keeping his counterpart near the back line as Neuman’s forehand finds the net.
After falling in the first set, Neuman and Li go to work in a fantastic volley. The Wildcat is able to be the aggressor throughout the point, while Li makes some great returns until he eventually returns a sinking lob too far out of play, giving the point to Neuman.
But in the end it’s Li who pulls away with a powerful serve and an even stronger forehand return, to take the victory 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. Neuqua does get a number three singles win from Nishesh Saikrishna.
After Neuqua took wins in three and four doubles, we’re tied 3-3 with number one doubles to play, Tyler Beck and Chris Smith challenge Ammaar Saeed and Naveen Ramakrishnan to decide the match.
Ramakrishnan serves in the far court, Beck returns back and forth with Ramakrishnan until Chris Smith slides in and smashes a lob down for the point.
However the Redhawks regain control and take the first set 6-2. In the second set Ramakrishnan and Chris Smith go back and forth along the back lines until one of Smith’s backhands is deflected in for the point by Saeed. Central wins in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 and the Redhawks hang on for a hard fought 4-3 dual meet win.
