Naperville Central and The Valley head to Glenbard West in girls lacrosse for their 3rd meeting this season, however the stakes can’t be any higher as the postseason begins. The Valley won both regular season meetings and head in on a 4 game winning streak. The Redhawks on the other hand look to snap a 4 game losing streak.
The Valley wins the opening faceoff and goes to work. Audra Thompson gets into the slot and scores to put The Valley up 1-0.
It’s a 3-0 game now, however the Redhawks look for a spark. Alexie Romanelli goes right by a pair of defenders and fires a shot, but it is saved by Alexandra Collins. She launches the rock downfield and Ragan Kueltzo scores in transition to put the Valley up 4-0.
10-0 in the final minute of the half. Off a restart Elle Friess finds the back of the net to put the Redhawks on the board, however they trail by 9 at the break.
The Redhawks open up the 2nd half on the right note. Isabelle Hornig splits a pair of defenders and bounces the shot past Collins to cut into the deficit as they trail 11-2.
Just over a minute later Alexie Romanelli scores off a restart and now the Redhawks have the momentum as they are down 11-3.
15-6 now and the Redhawks draw another penalty shot. Elle Friess capitalizes this time midway through the 2nd half.
But the comeback attempt and the offense started too late. Audrey Ehrler passes inside to Audra Thompson for the goal. The Valley plays another DVC rival in Naperville North in the Lacrosse Sectional Semi Finals.
