The final game of the opening night of the Naperville season opening tournament features a sectional final rematch between Naperville North and the Redhawks of Naperville Central. The Huskies won that matchup en route to a third place finish at state.
In the first period, Huskies already leading before Taylor Wessel makes a quick pass to Margot Steed for the goal, North up 3-0 early.
North back on the attack as Wessel leads the break and feeds Lainey Echolm who quickly fires in the goal, 4-0 Huskies.
North continues to build a lead late in the 2nd as Anna Tarantino bounces a shot into the net, putting her team up 5 to 1.
Late in the 2nd Central settle into the offense as Maggie Toennis patiently waits for a clearing before tossing in the goal, NC down 5-2.
Early in the third Maddie Jannusch lets a long shot go but sophomore goalie Grace Raquel makes the save on the bounce to preserve the lead.
Late in the third, Taylor Wessel dumps a pass off to Anna Tarantino who spins and gets her third goal as North leads 7-2.
The Redhawks not ready to give up as Emily Wagner finds Jenny Desch for a goal, two in the game for the senior as Central cuts into the lead.
But too much Huskie offense as Taylor Wessel with the sniper shot from long distance into the corner. Three goals in the game for Wessel. The Huskies start off on the right foot thanks to a 9-4 win over their rival.
