With postseason action around the corner, it’s time for the Nape Valley invite and we have plenty of area athletes competing in the championship matches at Waubonsie.
Starting us off in the 3 doubles third place match is Benet’s Cal O’Connor and Nick Messina against Waubonsie’s Lucas Holder and Anshul Chawla. And it’ll be Chawla who strikes first in the first set.
The redwings rebound and take the first set and carry the momentum into the 2nd set where Messina, right in front of the net for the wings to grab the point and the third place spot.
Now over to 2 doubles 1st place match with North’s Preton Choa and Tarun Vellanhi against St Charles Norths Alex Gievlous and Brett Walden. Choa aggressive at the net helps the huskies win the first set 6-1.
Second set and a little bit of a longer rally until Chao once again gets the smash right in front of the net. North takes first place in straight sets.
We drop a partner for 1 singles first place match with Edwardsvilles Zach Trimpe against Connor Bakukl from St. Charles North. Trimpe comes out as the #1 singles champ after controlling both sets 6-2, 6-0.
2 singles first place match holds metea’s Vittal Harith against Edwardsvilles Drake Schreiber. Harith with the good serve and then the great forehand smash helps him win the first set 6-3.
Second set action holds back and forth action. Schrieber is able to catch Harith off guard with the backhand to take set 2 6-4.
Third set with another nice rally. Harith chips the ball over but Schreiber makes a nice return and eventually gets the smash for the point and the first place finish.
Edwardsville would finish 3rd while Metea and North tie for fourth with 40 points.
