4A Girls Volleyball Supersectional at Plainfield North after originally being scheduled to be at Normal High School. Benet Academy and Minooka square off as the redwings hope to make the state tournament for a second straight year.
Benet leading by just one early in the first set, and Minooka is making them work for it but the wings reset and Colleen McGuire gets a tip to push BA’s lead up to two.
Benet leading by four but Minooka cuts in to that as Heidi Bonde gets a kill to bounce behind from behind the ten foot line, Indians trailing 10-7.
Benet on a run 5-0 run, and Musienga helps that as she throws one over on the second touch for the point, Benet leads 16-7.
But the Indians are still staying a live, doing everything they can to get some points back. Heidi Bonde gets quite the unconventional kill to land as she spinds around. Minooka down 19-11.
Set point for the Redwings though, and it’s a quick end as Ann Marie Remmes gets the quick set from Musienga for the kill for BA to take set one 25-17.
Minooka leading early in the second set, and we get a little back and fourth but the Indians get not one chance but two to get the kill and Desiree Anderson finds success for the point for Minooka to go up 7-3.
The wings pull right back in to it though, trailing by just one. Kyla Kenney digs out an attempt which then sets up Sophie Gregus who powers one home to knot the second set at 12 all.
Wings really starting rolling as they know lead and Gregus shows that she can do more than just swing. She can block too as she gets another point for BA, 16-12.
6’3” Heidi Bonde can really get up at the net for the Indians as she keeps them in it with another one of her 12 kills on the night, Minooka trailing 16-13.
Late in the second set and Benet showing off their wings as Kyla Kenney gets set up and she gets some hang time as she comes soaring in for the big time kill getting her teammates pumped up. Benet can taste state, just 3 points away from the taking the set.
And just three points later, Benet puts this match away as Colleen McGuire gets up at the net for the put down off the over pass from Minooka. The Redwings win in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17 and advance to the state semifinals against Marist.
