We head to the State Cheerleading Championships in Bloomington. Neuqua Valley looking relaxed after finishing third at state last year, they’re back in the Large Team category after finishing 4th in the tough Joliet West sectional.
Metea Valley finished 2nd at the Dekalb sectional in the co-ed division to make it to state as well. Their routine in the prelims was good enough to get them the final spot in the finals with a score of 86.13.
Neuqua also impressed the judges during Friday’s prelims with the 9th best score of 88.47 putting them back in the state finals once again.
Metea was even better in the finals, using their unique backbend flip in their end pyramid to help them stand out. The Mustangs jumped up to 7th in the finals, with a score of 85.50. Buffalo Grove won the co-ed division with the top score of 91.47.
Neuqua needed a great routine to finish with a state trophy…which is exactly what they delivered. The tumbling was a strength for the Wildcats as they made a huge leap onto the podium. Neuqua took home the third place trophy for the second straight year and the third year in a row bringing home a state finals trophy. Neuqua is only the 2nd program in the school’s history to accomplish such a feat. Providence Catholic finished second and Joliet West took home the title with a 94.70.
