Naperville Central enters North Central College as the reigning DuPage Valley Conference indoor track and field champions. Now the Redhawks must defend their title with the likes of Neuqua Valley and the other Valley schools entering the DVC.
Taking a quick whip around the field events, Naperville North ‘s Emma Backman took third place in the high jump. Neuqua Valley’s Kenna Lonergan wins the event, jumping 5’3″. Lonergan follows up her high jump with a third place in the long jump. In the shot put, it’s a pair of Mustangs from Metea Valley finishing first and third, Courtney Morgan and Arionna Cox respectively. Sandwiched in between the Mustangs is Grace Merritt from Neuqua Valley.
Naperville Central’s D’Jenne Egharevba finished first in both the 55 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Neuqua Valley’s Samara Miller and Tashee Hargrave went one-two in the 400 meter run. Judy Pendergast did what Pendergast is known to do and that’s run, fast. The senior broke the state record in the 1600 meter run the week prior and at the DVC meet, she set another state record in the 3200 meter run. Her 10:11.56 is now the best time in the nation.
The Wildcats quartet of Tashee Hargrave, Lizzy McCadd, Samara Miller, and MiKenna Robinson took home the final race of the day, the 4×400. Neuqua Valley’s depth throughout the meet proved to be the difference as the Wildcats won the DVC title by 27 points.
