What a way to start the season for a pair of top ten teams according to ChicagolandSoccer.org. 8th ranked Neuqua Valley is returning only three starters from last year’s state team. The second-ranked Fillies of Barrington got a win in their first game of the season against number four Naperville North.
This early season match lived up to the billing. Both teams made a run to state last year with the Wildcats finishing in second and Barrington taking the third place trophy. The Fillies’ Sophia Spinell was relentless throughout the match, getting a number of chances early in the first half. Spinell even thought she had a goal in the 13th minute, but it was negated by an offsides. Neuqua Valley sophomore netminder Yanel Ortiz was up to the challenge making eight saves in the contest.
In the end, neither team could put one past the other’s goalie and the match ended in a nil-nil draw.
