Number one-seed Benet Academy taking on number six-seed York. The Dukes beat Naperville North and Glenbard West to make it this far. The Redwings try to avoid repeating history after York knocked them out in the Regional Final last year.
Benet got out to a hot start, going up 18-8 after one quarter, sparked by a seven-point performance in the first eight minutes by Junior guard Jack Nolan. Redwings continued to control the tempo in the second, Nolan added five more before halftime. Benet’s largest lead of the game came halfway through the second when the Redwings lead 26-12. York was able to chip away and make it a 30-20 score heading to the break.
Dukes fed off the momentum in the third, outscoring the Redwings 12-4 in the quarter, making it a two-point game with the final eight minutes still to play. The resiliency of the Redwings prevailed, as Benet knocked down 16 of its final 21 free throws to hold off York and advance to the Super-Sectional to face Joliet West.
