Willowbrook boys basketball finished the regular season on a five-game losing streak, but as they say, the postseason is a brand new season. The Warriors won their first round matchup against Addison Trail by 15 points advancing to the regional semifinals. Awaiting Willowbrook was East Aurora Sectional, number one seed, Benet Academy.
Redwings putting their skills on display early on knocking down shots from behind the arc to take a 12-8 lead after the first. But the Warriors fought back and actually took the lead after a bucket by Ethan Schuemer heading into the half. Seniors James Dockery and Dan Sobolewski took over in the third, getting to the rim and going on an 8-2 run to start the third quarter. Benet extended its lead to six in the fourth and never looked back from there, knocking down 10 free throws down the stretch, winning 56-46, advancing to the regional final against Naperville Central.
