Providence Catholic and Benet Academy have faced off on the ice five times this season, with the Redwings leading the series 3-2. This latest installment of the rivalry differs slightly with a trip to the state championship on the line.
The main difference in this game, the power play efficiency. Celtics scored both their goals on the man-advantage racing out to a 2-0 lead early in the 2nd. That lead would prove to hold up as the Redwings failed to convert on any of their six power plays.
Luke Sammons made an incredible shot from the faceoff circle to the right of the goalie, cutting the lead in half in the third. Benet had a few looks late, but Ryan Iaciancio stood on his head for Providence Catholic needed him the most sending the Celtics to the United Center to play for their first state title in program history.
The two teams will square off one more time this season for the Kennedy Cup championship.
