Benet Academy looking to bring home its first ever state championship in boys basketball. The Redwings were back in the title game for the second time in three seasons.
It turned out to be the perfect start for Benet, controlling the tempo, making shots, and playing good defense. Twice the Redwings held a 12-point lead in the first half. The Condors scratched and clawed their way back into the contest, only trailing by five at the break.
Benet’s offense went ice cold in the second half. The Redwings didn’t score for nearly seven minutes. In that same time frame, Curie went on a 19-0 run that the Condors would never relinquish. Curie defeated Benet Academy 65-59, earning the school’s first ever state trophy in any sport. The Redwings can still hang their hats on a school record 31-wins in a season.
