35 schools make the trip to North Central College for the 13th Annual Mustang Relays hosted by Downers Grove South. Naperville Central, Metea Valley and Neuqua Valley representing our area teams.
The story of the night was the quartet from Carl Sandburg High School in the 4×800 Relay. The team of Martin Skucas, Chris Torpy, Dylan Jacobs,and Sean Torpy made quick work of the rest of the field. The end result was a national number one time of 7:45.80. The record breaking team was actually trailing after the first leg, but the team calmly worked to gain a lead it would not give back. The Eagles effort ranks second all-time indoors in state history. In an earlier heat for the same race, Metea Valley set a school record, with a time of 8:17.40.
In the final race of the night, the 4×400, it was the Wildcats of Neuqua Valley’s turn to shine. The team of Jacob Sampson, Isaiah Robinson, JaQuere Williams, and Kevin Sager crossed the line in 3:25.09, good for third best in the state right now. The DuPage Valley Conference Indoor Championships is this weekend.
