Girls lacrosse season picking up steam. The Naperville North huskies, who finished fourth in the state last year and sit 2 and 3 on the young season host Benet Academy who have won three games so far.
Game tied at 1s in the first half, North Ella Marshitz grabs the upper corner for the goal. North up 2-1.
Benet came to play however. They score three straight goals. This one by Caroline Covey on the side puts the wings up 4-2.
Second half action now and Benets Karley Keating adds on to the lead taking the goalie on one v one. Benet now up 8-4.
But the tides are turning a little bit. North’s Bella Caputo on the attack cuts in to the redwing lead as she bounces one in, Huskies trailing by 2.
Late in the second half and north has come all the way back. Another bouncing shot by Caputo ties the game up at 9!
1 minute left in the game and benet has a chance to take the lead. Karly Keating finds Mary Catherine Craig in front of the net. She turns and shoots, Benet up 1.
But there is still plenty of game left to play. A foul gives North’s Audrey Johnson a chance to score with one second left and she does just that! Pushing this game to over time.
In extra time is was back and forth until senior Audrey Johnson carried was able to sneak one in for the golden goal. The huskies are now back at 500 with the 11 to 10 win.
