In the previous 33 years of the Benet Invite, Neuqua Valley had never made it to the championship match. The Wildcats got by York to advance to the title game against the host Redwings.
Neuqua Valley had its chances in the first set to put the pressure on Benet. Leading 24-21, the Wildcats let the Redwings back in the set, eventually losing it 27-25.
Second set also started out well for the Wildcats. One of Kora Kauling’s seven kills put the away team on top 14-9. But as many would expect, Benet fought back and eventually took the lead. An errant shot by Kauling ended the match as the Redwings got the win in straight sets. Its Benet’s eighth invitational title in the last ten years.
