Metea Valley wrestling is coming off its most impressive season in its five years of existence as a varsity program. A big reason for that success is head coach, Claudio Torres. The Army veteran and his deep roster of assistants have created a great environment to being out the best in their wrestlers.
Senior Dylan Ervin just became the first wrestler in the history of the Mustangs program to make it to the state finals, finishing second at the IHSA meet in the 195 lb weight division. Freshman Philip Simms also qualified for state, but was unable to compete due to injury, but his qualifying game Metea their first season of having more than one state qualifier. The blueprint has been set and coach Torres is looking to continue to raise the program to new heights while making sure his athletes are well rounded individuals off the mat as well.
