Naperville 203 teachers Randy Smith, Seth Brady and Jennifer Weigand have been instrumental in leading the charge in bringing the Illinois Global Scholar Certificate to the District. Claire Paschke and Olivia Howard of Naperville Central High School and Isabella Taylor of Naperville North High School share their recently completed capstone projects.
What is the Illinois Global Scholar Certificate?
The certificate awards merit, on the state approved transcript to students who demonstrate global competence through coursework, service learning, global collaboration, and a summative capstone project. Students at Naperville Central High School and Naperville North High School who seek the Global Scholar Certificate must complete five requirements. These requirements include taking eight courses designated by the District as globally focused; complete at least one globally focused service-learning project; collaborate with global peers in person or through virtual communication; participate in globally focused student activities through school or an outside institution; and complete a capstone project. The capstone project investigates a global issue, producing an artifact such as a paper, film, work of art or infographic and communicating the findings to someone affected by the issue.
