Will County is increasing their fight against heroin overdoses.
The county board recently voted to implement a Narcan Distribution Program that will train law enforcement officers how to administer Narcan.
The prescription drug blocks opioid receptors in the brain, which reverses a heroin overdose, ultimately saving lives.
The program will be funded through the Department of Justice.
So far this year 14 people have died from heroin overdoses in Will County.
Officers in DuPage County can also administer Narcan also known at Nalaxone in the event of an overdose in the field.
