The County Board voted to give the Board of Health a respite on repayment of just over $426,000 dollars of a $3 million loan they provided earlier this year. The health department now has an extra year to pay back that portion of the loan.
This will provide the health department with some much-needed funds while facing a cash shortfall due to the budget impasse in Springfield. 18 jobs will be saved from the chopping block, and the adult behavioral health, crisis response and juvenile justice programs can be kept afloat.
The health department has already implemented other cost-cutting measures like cutting staff training and limiting overtime, and will likely still see over 25 layoffs.
