The Will County strike ended on December 4 with a tentative agreement between the county and AFSCME Local 1028.
And now the Will County Board has voted to approve the tentative contracts that Will County employees are working under, making them permanent.
The new contract is a four-year agreement retroactive to December 1, 2012 and extending through November 30, 2016.
It includes cost-of-living wage increases totaling 4.5% adjusting the wage scale upward a further 5% while ensuring that employees will continue to receive step increases.
The agreement also ensures that increased costs for healthcare are shared equitably based on employees’ ability to pay.
The approval by the board ends 15 months of negotiations.
