Human cases of West Nile Virus are continuing to spread throughout the area and have now hit Naperville.
The Centers for Disease Control says the U.S. has the highest number of West Nile cases through the end of August since it was first discovered in our country in 1999.
As of august 31st, the DuPage County Health Department has reported seven cases of humans infected with the virus, up two from the week before. This includes an anonymous Naperville resident sick with the virus.
There are no vaccines or treatments for West Nile but most people experience no symptoms. The best way to prevent the virus is to wear bug repellent and remove standing water which serves as a breeding ground for the Culex Mosquito which carries the virus.
