The controversial Water Street development has cleared another hurdle and is one step closer to construction.
City Council voted 6-2 in favor of three ordinances for the area of land where the project will be built.
The development proposed by Marquette Companies will sit on 2.4 acres on Water Street between Main and Webster Streets and will house a 166 room hotel along with retail, office and restaurant space along with a parking garage.
Councilmen Doug Krause and Grant Wehrli were the only two council members to vote against the project.
Councilman Wehrli doesn’t approve of the variance that allows the developer to construct fewer parking spaces, which will cost the city money.
“My dollar meter is already running at one million bucks,” said Wehrli.
The developer and City Council still have to discuss what tax incentives will be offered as part of the project.
