Construction on Naperville’s new Walmart Supercenter is underway.
If you take a drive on 75th Street near Beebe Drive, you’ll see the new big box store in the beginning phases of construction.
The new store will be 170,000 square feet and will replace Walmart’s current Naperville location on Route 59.
Naperville city council members voted unanimously last August to adopt a resolution giving Walmart $1.75 million in sales tax incentives over ten years to keep the retailer in Naperville.
If the store would have moved to neighboring Aurora the city would have risked losing the sales tax revenue, which generates roughly $500,000 a year.
