A local school took part in an annual event to make the world a safer place.
National Walk To School day is organized by the Partnership for a Walkable America, a group focused on the importance of safe, walkable communities.
Fry Elementary students grabbed their backpacks and made the walk or ride to school.
New this year, the school is hoping to log 300 miles for the month of October, having the students keep track of their mileage.
“I like to walk to school to talk to my friends and get exercise,” said Fry fifth grade student, Clarissa.
“It’s healthy,” said second grade student, Alana.
“I like getting exercise,” said fifth grade student, Jake.
The event supports health, environmental awareness and traffic reduction. Fry was just one of several local elementary schools taking part this year.
