A local business takes a step on the red carpet to raise awareness.
Women at Risk Chest Boutique in Naperville recently partnered with the Naperville Independent Film Festival to highlight the global plight of women.
Three films focusing on the lives of at risk women and families made their big screen debut, including one from the W.A.R. Chest Boutique, centering on the mission of W.A.R. International, to raise women affected by the human trafficking industry back to worth and dignity.
“A lot of times trafficking sounds like such a huge issue, and something that’s really dark and people don’t know how to address it or what to do.” said Ashley Pitariu, Manager of the W.A.R. Chest Boutique “So we exist to give people a tangible way to fight it with their dollar.”
The W.A.R. Chest Boutique sells accessories and ornaments all made by women either rescued from trafficking situations or at risk of being trafficked.
Proceeds go to help women all over the world obtain an education, child care and even health care.
W.A.R. hopes the partnership with the Naperville Independent Film Festival will inform the community on the real threat of human trafficking.
It is estimated that 2 million people are trafficked worldwide each year, eighteen- thousand of which are in the U.S.
