Allison Neal’s volunteer experience started to snowball after Volunteering for NCO’s Youth and Family Services. The Naperville Central High School senior was honored at the Naperville Jaycees 2011 Distiguished Service Awards ceremony as the Student Volunteer of the year for all the work she has done. She was nominated for the award by her younger brother.
“I think she loves more than anyone I have ever met,” says younger brother Mike Neal. “I think she has the ability to love people that she might not even know.”
Allison started her volunteer work in high school giving up her time to woke with NCO’s snowball, the special olympics, and as a teachers aide working with special needs kids. When Haiti was struck by the country’s worst earthquake in decades, Allison raised her own funds to travel there to help in the rebuilding effort by tending to the sick and rebelling an orphanage. She found her main inspiration close to home while working as a nanny in the summer with two teenage boys with special needs.
“They don’t think they are any different from anyone else so why make them feel different,” says Allison. “They love going out and doing stuff any normal teenager would do.”
Allison Plans to continue helping people in her professional career as well. She will be attending Illinois State in the fall and major in Special Education.
