The 24-year-old St. Charles man accused of killing his Naperville roommate has been found guilty.
Grant Muren was convicted of second-degree murder, aggravated arson and residential arson after Judge Brian Teelander determined that Muren’s belief that he had been acting in self-defense when choking 55-year-old Charles Clark during a struggle was unreasonable.
But he acquitted Muren on two other counts: robbery, and concealment of a homicide.
Muren strangled Clark, his new roommate at the time, back in January 2014. He then turned on the gas to the stove and left his oven open in what investigators saw as an attempt to blow up or burn down the home.
He now faces up to 30 years in prison.
Muren is back in court on October 21, when a sentencing date may be set.
