The songs were courtesy of a regular at the community center.
“[It was] very nice, very happy,” said Kathy Whalen, the recipient of the singing valentine. “I’m just glad that they appreciate what we do here for him.”
This quartet, called The Upside Downers, traveled all over Chicagoland on Valentine’s Day, serenading at businesses, hospitals, and schools.
They perform songs from every decade dating back to the 1920s.
“It’s a hobby, it’s fun. It’s a good outlet for us,” said John Oberlin, baritone for the group. “We all used to sing in school and stuff and when you get older, this is what you do. It sure beats working.”
