The Navy set sail for Naperville this past week to keep us afloat on their progress.
Vice Admiral Michael Rogers, a native of Chicago, spoke at City Hall to community leaders and local citizens about new challenges faced by the Navy in the cyber space era.
Rogers is the Commander of the First U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, U.S. Tenth Fleet. The only one of its kind defined by missions and not location.
“You are the fleet of the 21st century,” said Rogers. “You’re not about ships, you’re not about aircraft, you’re not about submarines. You are about trons and the ability to move information and achieve effects all over the world.”
The Tenth Fleet, comprised of over 13,000 men and women, provides operational support to forces worldwide, helping them achieve military objectives in and through cyberspace.
“The Navy of today is a reflection of the society it defends,” said Rogers.
Currently, there are over 370,000 in uniform actively serving in the United States Navy.
