Partnering with the Naperville Jaycees, the U.S. Army arrived in town with one of four adventure semi trucks traveling the country to connect with communities.
“We bring it out so all the kids can come on. It has an Apache simulator, it has a Chinook simulator, it even has a rollercoaster virtual reality player and it even has a robot arm for robotics. It pretty much just gets the kids interested and know more about what we offer besides just always what they see on TV,” said Staff Sergeant Patricia Gwyn, Center Leader at the Naperville Recruiting Center.
The exhibits offer a combination of hands-on and interactive systems, like flying or firing weapons on a helicopter or improving marksmanship on a target system.
The trucks are not only used as promotional and recruiting tools, but also to enhance public awareness.
Last year the semi travelled over 635,000 miles and hosted over 27,000 visitors.
