One of Naperville residents’ top complaints is traffic and the city is hoping to alleviate some of the congestion.
A traffic study looked at the area between Edward Hospital on the north, Washington Street on the east, 75th Street on the south, and West Street on the west.
Residents sat down to watch a presentation and then had the chance to talk to a consultant and city staff about proposed changes.
“Some of the major recommendations we’re presenting are two alternatives for the intersection at Modaff, Gartner, and Magnolia,” said Project Engineer Kimberly Schmidt. “The residents had a lot of concerns about who was supposed to go when and being unsure because the geometry was a little different than a typical intersection. We are looking at some alternatives to move Modaff closer to Magnolia.”
Other improvements include adding bike lanes, pedestrian islands on busy streets, and more police presence to enforce speed limits.
This is the first time Naperville has conducted a comprehensive study of an entire area, instead of just addressing one complaint at a time.
