There’s a new service to help keep Will County residents safe, with help right at their fingertips.
The County has launched their text 911 service, which allows anyone in need of emergency help to text 911, rather than making a phone call. For someone who is hearing or speech impaired, or in a position where speaking might put them in danger, the new service could be a lifesaver.
There are a few stipulations; you have to be on a Verizon, Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile carrier, and you must be in Will County when you place the text.
Officials advise that calling 911 is still the fastest way to get through, so texting should be used only if you cannot reach emergency operators by voice.
