Senator Marco Rubio of Florida has tapped Illinois State Senator Mike Connelly to manage his Illinois campaign operations. And the former Governor of the sunshine state, Jeb Bush, has selected former House Republican leader Tom Cross to serve as co-chair in his Illinois campaign office.
Both will be working to recruit delegates for their candidates: the Republicans are entitled to three from each of the state’s 18 congressional districts, along with three alternates from each region as well. In the march 15 Illinois Primary, 54 will be directly elected to go to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, where they must each cast their vote in favor of one candidate.
Cross is already slated to run as a delegate for Bush, along with his co-chairs former Governor Jim Edgar and U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger of Channahon. Connelly has begun filling Rubio’s line-up with a number of State Senators and Representatives.
