Routinely landing on best school and safest city lists, it’s no wonder the population of our town keeps expanding, and now, Naperville is poised to become the fourth largest city in Illinois.
The line-up currently is Chicago, then Aurora, Rockford, Joliet, and Naperville. But if population trends from 2010 to 2014 are any predictor, those places could soon shuffle.
During that time, Naperville added 3,828 residents, putting us at 146,128, while Rockford dropped their population by 3,840.
If that downtick continues, they will likely fall below Joliet’s numbers, currently only thirteen hundred less than theirs, as well as Naperville’s, who lag just about 3,000 behind.
Our state’s population as a whole dropped by nearly 10,000 people from 2013 to 2014, the largest decline by any state in our nation.
