The Naperville Special Response Team conducted a training exercise at All Saints Catholic Academy to rehearse their response to an active school shooter and hostage scenario.
Officers were required to conduct rescues; providing tactical resolutions and crisis negotiations while dealing with the additional diversion of a burning car.
Commander Louis Cammiso of the Naperville Police Department adds, “We want to go through the tactical process of responding to these situations so that our officers are fully versed in their tactical response, both in negotiations, moving through hallways, and moving through the buildings. We choose a school setting because that has been a target in the past of situations, and it gives our personnel a chance to become familiar with those facilities.”
Crisis Negotiators and Tactical Emergency Medical Responders from the Fire Department were also on hand to provide the most realistic reaction and sharpen their skills.
The response team conducts regular training twice a month and scenario training four to five times a year.
