At the latest Planning and Zoning commission meeting, a proposal was put forth to open up the first medical cannabis dispensing facility here in Naperville.
Greenway Herbal Care presented a business plan for the 424 Fort Hill Drive property, which included community outreach efforts, requirements to purchase cannabis, and the products that would be offered.
The facility would be one of 46 units in a multi-tenant building, raising concern with the board about the 244 parking lot spaces shared between the tenants.
“I would like to focus the conversation personally on the impact you have on the neighboring property owners,” said Commissioner Kevin Coyne. “If no one else shows up then it’s going to be an easy decision for me. I do want to button this up because I wouldn’t want to have this pass city council and then find out it’s much more controversial to all your neighbors then what appears to be the case right now.”
The dispensary is required by the city to have nine parking spaces, but with the projected 30 patients served daily, the board wants to know where exactly these customers will park if the lot is filled to its capacity by other tenants.
The commissioners asked the owners to focus on the effects of the possible parking overflow, security measures, and insurance coverage for customers before bringing their petition back to the board.
Greenway Herbal Care is still waiting for their license to be approved by the State of Illinois. If all conditions are met, they are projected to open in spring 2016.
