The DuPage County Health Department warns that this summer, mosquitoes are big and bad.
The County has already had three batches of mosquitos test positive for West Nile, including one set from Naperville. However, there have been no human cases of West Nile reported yet in Illinois.
“This year has been like a perfect storm for the production of mosquitoes. We had a very wet spring and early summer we have a lot of standing water. We’ve already experienced a bumper crop of mosquitoes and we actually expect those biters to even get big and worse than they are right now,” said Dave Hass, Public Information Officer for the DuPage County Health Department.
The Health Department urges people to use mosquito repellent frequently, reapplying the spray after sweating, and suggests wearing long sleeves when outdoors between dusk and dawn.
They also recommend dumping out any standing water, especially in flowerpots or birdbaths.
