The Hines Mobile Medical Unit, from Edward Hines VA Hospital, will now visit Naperville every month.
“The whole purpose of that is to get more veterans signed up for va healthcare and to help them in filing claims for benefits and compensation,” said Michael Barbour, Veterans Advocate for Naperville Township and a Service Officer for VFW Post 3873.
Parking at the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, the Mobile Unit will also provide basic health screenings and flu shots to area veterans.
This service will save local veterans the nearly 45-mile round-trip to Hines VA Hospital.
“You have no excuse now. You need to get signed up for VA healthcare. You owe it to yourself. You put on the uniform and that’s a benefit that you earned,” said Barbour.
An additional mobile unit from the vet center will be on hand, equipped with psychologists to provide readjustment counseling and informational resources.
The mobile units will be at the Judd Kendall VFW from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month.
