Naperville Mayor George Pradel suffered a heart attack last Wednesday night.
Right now the Mayor remains in Intensive Care at Edward Heart Hospital after surgery to place two more stents in his heart. The Mayor already has one stent from a previous blockage back in 2006.
The Mayor’s daughter Carol Pradel says doctors were quick with a diagnosis. Carol Pradel states, “They did at that time say he had a mild heart attack, however there was no heart damage at all.” Carol Pradel says the Mayor is recovering quickly.
Carol Pradel says, “Awww. His spirits are great in fact I was just up in his room. They wanted him to get up and walk around the hallway and he’s walking around going from room to room to see how they’re feeling today and welcoming them to Edward Hospital.”
Carol Pradel says Edward Heart Hospital Doctors are saying the Mayor will have to get plenty of rest and some rehab. “Well, he misses the city, he misses going into work. He read the paper this morning to catch up on the latest news,” said Carol Pradel, “But he’ll be back to work soon you can count on that.”
Meantime while the Mayor recovers, a member of the City Council will assume the role of Mayor Pro-Tem. Councilmen Richard Furstenau is the current Pro-Tem.
Furstenau states, “I think the mayor will get through this real quick and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon.”
In an exclusive telephone interview with Naperville News 17, the Mayor says he’s feeling great and not letting this slow him down.
He says Doctors tell him he’ll be released from the Hospital by Saturday and intends to head back to work on Monday morning and then off to Washington D.C. later in the week for Government business. The Mayor was quick to point out this all with his Doctor’s blessing.
