Sunday liquor sale hours are one step closer to being consistent with weekday hours at local stores and businesses.
Several speakers came to the latest liquor commission meeting in support of the move, which would lengthen the amount of time sales can take place on Sundays.
“Times have changed, it’s 2015 and I think the law should reflect that, and I can’t think of a reason as to why we should treat Sunday any differently than Monday through Saturday,” said Board Member U-Jung Choe.
The board voted unanimously to move forward with the new sale hours, which would vary by business, but city council still needs to give final approval.
Also approved was a liquor confinement ordinance, which would allow liquor to be sold next to other packaged goods in stores, except for display of miniature liquor bottles of 375 milliliters or less.
And finally the commission discussed a possible catering license reciprocity agreement- in which the city would work with other communities to ensure that Naperville caterers do not need a license to serve liquor at events in other towns, just as it is here in Naperville.
