High rainfall over the past couple of weeks has sent the DuPage River to its highest point since April of 2013, and led to local flooding.
When water begins to build in your basement, it can be dangerous, and treading in could mean electric shock, exposure to gas leaks and chemicals.
“We would advocate that nobody go in their basement to try and manage that situation unless there are professionals with you. Electricity and water, as everyone knows – don’t mix and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to go see what’s wrong with your electrical system when there is water in you basement,” Chief Puknaitis.
Chief Puknaitis recommends calling the fire department if your basement does flood, so they can assess the risk, and contact the proper authorities.
