Drivers have cruised through an easy summer of gas prices until a problem popped up at a nearby refinery.
The average price for a gallon of gas in Naperville made a dramatic jump from $2.65 a gallon to $3.15 a gallon.
Spokesperson for AAA Chicago, Beth Mosher, adds, “What this all can be attributed to is a BP refinery issue over in Whiting, Indiana, that is one of the largest refineries for the Midwest area. They had an issue with one of their distilling units and that brought the supply down to about half capacity.”
It could be about three to four weeks before the issue is resolved, but Mosher reminds us that even with the 50 cent increase, we’re still better off than in summers past.
Those lower numbers are expected to return with a forecast for a very mild fall and winter.
