The home office may soon be a thing of the past, due to a growing trend in entrepreneurship.
“Coworking is a space where people who don’t work for the same employer come together to work. They go to work everyday but they don’t necessarily work with each other. They’re just individually working,” said Kent Palmer, Business Librarian at Naperville Public Library.
At Nichols Library in Downtown Naperville, any entrepreneur can go to the NaperLaunch room to work independently, discuss ideas, and even learn tips and tricks from industry veterans.
Palmer explains, “no card is required, it’s open to anyone who many need it d in fact the resources that are available at the library can be used by anyone in the library.”
Many coworkers also set up shop at not-for-profit Rev3 Innovation Center, located on Diehl road in the NIU Campus building.
For a fee ranging from $200 a month, to $1500 a month, independent professionals can use the coworking space and the additional meeting rooms, attend events or even have a dedicated office space.
“We kind of provide two things to entrepreneurs. Number one is we provide the physical space for them to come and to get out of their home and network face to face with other like-minded individuals and secondly we surround them with a lot of services,” said Nic Zito, Director of Rev3 Innovation Center.
Coworking allows individuals to have a structured environment, away from the house, with the flexibility of making their own hours.
Coworking spaces often provide office amenities like copiers, printers and scanners, along with some fun extras.
