College of DuPage trustees have taken a stance on the controversial Waterleaf Restaurant on campus.
At a recent meeting, the board voted five to one to close the Waterleaf restaurant at the end of the month and reopen it as an educational center for students.
The vote comes as a response to the loss of revenue for the restaurant over the past few years and as investigations found that senior administrators spent thousands of dollars on meals and alcohol all on the taxpayers dime.
Trustees also voted to give Waterleaf’s 19 employees severance packages that included one week’s pay for every year worked.
The Waterleaf Restaurant was opened in 2011 under the direction of College President Robert Breuder who is currently on paid administrative leave.
