At an earlier Council meeting, the board voted five to four to keep the municipal code in place that prohibits anyone with an interest in the sale of alcohol from holding office, leaving local bar owner Jimmy Bergeron out of the running in the City Council race.
But now that the election is over, Bergeron came back to the board asking that the newly elected board get a chance to take another look at the code once they take office.
“I think there are a number of issues on here that are very confusing and complex and it would be worth the time to take the time and get this issue right,” said Bergeron, Owner of the Wise Boxer Pour House.
The board agreed that they weren’t sure they made the right decision and unanimously voted to send the code back to the Liquor Commission for further review, to then be sent back to the new council for discussion.
Another item on the docket for the night was the adoption of the City’s budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 of roughly $445 million. The board voted eight to one to adopt the budget which comes as a 2.2% increase from last year.
