As the new Mayor, Steve Chirico automatically becomes the Liquor Commissioner, a job that puts him in charge of setting and regulating the Naperville liquor code.
His first move as head of the commission is to assemble a new board of seven people.
So far he’s put two into place, both former members of the board. Jim Ostrenga and Scott Wehrli each have served on the board for several years.
“I think the commission is best made of up people who don’t always agree on everything, like any board of commission you get perspective when you have a mixture of different people and different backgrounds, I look forward to a real good mixture of those backgrounds going forward, and hopefully it brings fruitful discussion.”
Chirico has as long as he wants to fill the other slots, as he’s allowed to operate without a board, but expects to make final decisions by mid-June.
