The newest Century Walk sculpture unveiled commemorates the 35th anniversary of the Naperville Area Humane Society and Founders.
Before the sculpture was unveiled, it was a complete surprise to many.
“I’m a little apprehensive about this thing that’s covered up, I hope it’s a cat and a dog,” said Cleo Keller, Naperville Area Humane Society Founding Member.
It was in fact, exactly both.
Award-winning artist Dale Rogers created the sculpture, “Best Friends,” which is now on permanent display near the park district building off Jackson Avenue.
It was developed by a committee who dedicated themselves to seeing the dreams of honoring Ardis and Cleo become a reality.
The dreams to help abandoned pets in Naperville.
“This was a group of people who stood outside of our normal volunteers, that stood outside of our staff, that stood outside of our board, and worked to bring this statue, to get the money to honor Cleo on our 35th anniversary,” said Tom Carroll, President of Naperville Area Humane Society Board.
The Century Walk organization works to bring public art to the Naperville community.
