Campaign Volunteers

There’s an unprecedented amount of candidates in this year’s election, 31 people all trying to vie for your vote.

It takes the help of volunteers to get the candidate’s word out and it’s not just putting up signs and handing out flyers.

“There are several different things that I do, one is to just share the word, so social media sharing with different events or fundraisers that a candidate might be having. Also do some marketing for the campaigns, so going door to door and talking to people which I really love and enjoy doing,” said 2015 campaign volunteer, Diana Williams.

Most people think that family members are the main contributors in campaigns, but actually, a lot of volunteers join just to learn more about the government process.

“It’s the easiest way to know what’s going on in your town or city, all the nuts and bolts of what goes into a decision, it’s not just somebody waves a wand and then something happens, it’s a lot more than that. And getting involved with politics or even volunteering, something like this, you kind of get a knowledge of how the process is and how decisions are made and why,” said 2015 campaign volunteer, Miguel Sanchez.

Both volunteers suggest really looking into the candidates to know who best aligns with your principles, and once you choose, don’t be afraid to call and ask questions to make sure.

And the most important part of volunteering, getting people out to vote.

“I think it’s very important for people to vote in a local election, especially the one we have coming up here in Naperville. Of course people want to get out and vote for the main election, but this one is close to home, this is our home, the decisions that are made here affect us directly. We really need to have the right people in place to lead this town in a good direction and make it flourish like it has in so many years,” said Williams.

Williams also hopes that whoever takes over as Mayor will bring the same enthusiasm that Mayor Pradel has brought to town for 20 years.
